 Shelter in the Park
« Thread Started on Jun 4, 2007, 12:40am »

Hewie lay curled into a ball under a bench in Greenacres Park, his white, albino fur blending into the snow rather nicely. A couple of human children were playing on the playground whilst their parents watched and conversed with one another. He paid them little attention, except to growl away the stray child attempting to pet him. It was just beginning to snow again, and a couple of the parents rounded up their children and walked from the park. Now only Hewie and a lone child was left near the entrance of the park. He watched the human child with mild interest as it came closer to him. He growled weakly, and the human hesitated before continuing closer.

Hewie stood and walked out from under the bench staring the child down. The human spoke quietly to him, and reached into a pocket in his jacket, producing a treat in his outstretched palm. Hewie looked uncertainly at the treat before cautiously licking the treat from the child's hand. The human smiled and petted Hewie gently, relaxing the German Shepard enough to get him to lay down again.

Hewie laid down and the child followed suit, sitting beside him. He let the kid pet him, he knew not why, but he didn't seem threatening in the least bit. He let his eyes wonder around the park, picking out a couple of stray dogs roaming around but nothing out of the ordinary.
